Dear Little Dragon Girls,

I'm 12 & I wanna be a hip-hop dancer! I wanna B on "America's Best Dance Crews" w/ the winning crew someday, but I'm having a hard time keepin up w/ school (yuck) & my parents R threatening 2 stop dance classes! I don't know what 2 do! I wanna B a famous dancer or choreographer, but my mom and dad want me to be a doctor. Help!

"America's Best Dance Crews" is one of our favorite shows and we think it's so exciting that you are training to compete on it one day soon!

You're definitely in a rough spot with your folks! Buddha has a saying that applies to your situation:

"Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes."

To be a successful at anything, you have to be on point and stick with it through thick and thin! It sounds like you have a clear goal, and you've got to chase your dreams with everything you've got! However, your parents are right to want you to keep up with your grades because education is important and will be a good back-up if you ever decide you want to start a dance business or open a dance school!

First thing to do is sit down with your parents and tell them how much you love dance and that you truly see yourself being successful with it. Tell them that school is important to you too and that you need help finding a way to dance AND keep up your grades. Ask your parents for a tutor, or if that's too expensive for them, you should be able to find one for free at school. You can also ask your parents for help with managing your time better - maybe you can review your school lessons during dance breaks.

It will be tough to juggle things, but it's totally doable and worth the extra effort! Every great athlete has been in your shoes, and we believe you can pull this off! We expect to see you on "America's Best Dance Crews" really soon, so stay true to your art and do whatever it takes to ensure you can keep dancing!
